Off-Campus Study
We help our students build a global perspective to be agents of Hope in the world.
Our study-abroad programs are committed to foster global understanding and international exchanges across cultures and borders. Students have access to over 200 programs of study, both domestic and international.
Some things to consider as a music major as you plan your off-campus study experience:
- Courses that may be taken off-campus are applied lessons and Music History.
- It is important to meet with your academic advisor regarding courses you plan on taking off-campus and how this fits within your academic plan, particularly credits counting toward your major (and provide appropriate course descriptions).

Vienna Summer School Music Program
Since the pioneer days of 1956 when the late Dr. Paul G. Fried (Professor of History, Director of International Education at Hope) founded the Vienna Summer School, close to 3,500 students from more than 200 colleges and universities have discovered how summer study in Vienna can provide them with a meaningful introduction to the rich heritage of European civilization.
The program, now in its 60th year, presents experiential learning opportunities in the neighborhoods of Austria to the steps of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Courses through the initiative focus on performance, music history and German language study.

Organ Study Tour
Every other year, the organ department sends its organ majors on a trip to experience the architecture, sound and history of the pipe organ across Europe. The program began in 2007 as an experiential learning initiative to connect students with the people and places that display historical organ-playing at its best.
Recent visits have included visits to Amsterdam, London, Paris and Hamburg. To learn more about the organ study tours, contact Dr. Huw Lewis.
